Within five of the Hampton Roads cities there are 32 Title One schools – those designated as having a majority of financially disadvantaged children. |

Many students who attend Title One schools are from parentless homes. They are being raised by an elderly grandparent or other family member. In these instances, food, shoes, and clothes are a daily challenge. The most that they can do is to send these children out each day to school.
Most of us cannot imagine the circumstances that these children face. With the federal, state, and city governments strapped for money, where will the schools get help for these children? |

Teachers cannot be expected to provide supplies for a classroom of students, yet many teachers have to reach into their own pockets to do just that.
While Adopt-A-Student will hopefully give the neediest of students the supplies they need to start the school year, paper, notebooks, pens and pencils will run out. The schools need help in replenishing these supplies throughout the year.
